As a real property lawyer based in Toronto, Canada I have had numerous opportunities to consider investing in property developments. Certainly investments in property are both secure as tangible assets and generally effective in increasing one’s net worth. However, there is a further criteria that I have always used when considering any investment beyond security and return on my investment. That criteria is whether the investment will also serve the broader needs of the local community and of the part of the natural world that it will impact.
Essentially my motto for investments is: “Do Well. Do Good. Do Better” which means ‘do well’ financially, ‘do good’ in terms of benefits to the local community and the impact on nature of the investment in a project, product or service. If you do BOTH then ultimately you “do better”, both in regard to the impact of your investment being a positive one overall and also in terms of the financial return as I believe that formula creates such synergy.
A number of years ago a friend and colleague, eco-Architect Tania Arrayales Rodriquez, asked me to consider partnering with her and investing in the Company and concept she had created which Tania called GREEN HABITAT. The mission of Green Habitat is to take into account the importance of keeping the environment in balance and promoting sustainability with an eco-friendly approach towards nature and the local community. To respect the land, water, flora, fauna and peoples of the regions where the Company bases its eco-development projects.
Based on this Mission and Tania’s commitment to those principles she had established for all of Green Habitat’s projects I agreed to partner and invest as such an investment was fully aligned with my personal investment criteria as I set out above.
Green Habitat is currently engaged in three eco-developments in Tulum, Mexico:
Vita Tulum – vitatulum.com
Maya Luna Tulum – mayalunatulum.com
Green Village Tulum – greenvillagetulum.com
Do Well. Do Good. Do Better.
